    Apprentices form a valid role within our nurseries as employed members of staff, with many progressing onto an Advanced Apprenticeship then progressing in their career at Busy Bees, fulfilling senior positions within our nurseries.

    Please find an example of some of your duties below:

    Involvement in planning stimulating activities for the children in your care

    Assisting in delivering a high level of quality childcare

    Building effective relationships with children, parents and team members

    Ensuring each child’s individual needs are met

    Contributing to the safeguarding of all children

    As an Apprentice, you will be working alongside qualified staff who will show you the ropes. You will be assigned a mentor to provide you with support within your nursery, helping you to complete the tasks you need so you can progress in your qualification. You will attend short courses at our training centres, where you will be provided with knowledge to develop your personal skills and practice.
    Your Training Officer will visit you regularly in your nursery, assessing the work you are doing, providing recognition for your progress and vital guidance on how you can improve.

    Desired skills

    You must be motivated to achieving your qualification to a high standard. You must be committed to childcare and developing your career with Busy Bees.
    You will be expected to develop an ability to use your own initiative, with guidance.

    Personal qualities

    You must be presentable with a caring nature. You must demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm to providing quality childcare.

    Desired qualifications

    GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths grade C or above.

    You must ensure grades are detailed on your application form.

    Future prospects

    On completion of your apprenticeship you will become an Early Years Educator with Busy Bees and have the opportunity to apply to progress on to an Advanced Apprenticeship.

    Many Advanced Apprentices have progressed on to fulfil roles such as: SENCOs, Room Managers, Nursery Mentors and Assistant Managers.

    There are also opportunities as a Busy Bees employee to progress on to further childcare qualifications or a management apprenticeship.

    Things to consider

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour due to rise to £3.70 per hour from 1st April 2018. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.

    This includes: Level 2 Certificate, Paediatric First Aid, Food Safety Certificate, Level 1 Functional Skills, Level 2 award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Children and Young People’s Settings, whilst developing your Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills.
    There is a Practical Experience Booklet designed to enhance your ‘on the job’ training, along with opportunities for short courses, such as: Basic Skills, Functional Skills, Equality & Diversity, Behaviour Management, Early Years Foundation Stage, Safeguarding Children, Food Hygiene and many more.
