Right now there are 1190 people aged 16-24 climbing the career ladder within Sutton businesses, via a range of different apprenticeships – and they’re being paid for doing so. To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2016 (14-18 March), we wanted to give you a little insight into who’s doing what, and where, in the borough.
Who is doing what, and where?
So, the top five industries that are employing apprentices in Sutton are:
1. Business, Administration & Law = 370
2. Health, Public Services & Care = 270
3. Retail & Commercial Enterprise = 200
4. Engineering and Manufacturing = 160
5. Construction & Planning = 50

What demand is there for apprentices in Sutton?
Loads! We asked businesses if they would be keen to take on an apprentice, and a whopping 60 percent said they would – a quick calculation tells us that there are 3,900 businesses willing to get involved.
And what’s brilliant, is that the average amount a Sutton-based apprentice is paid is around £10K per annum. Imagine that, no debt from university, and a foot on the career ladder. Pretty awesome, right?!
See you in the High Street
On Wednesday 16th March 2016, the Apprenticeship Hub Team will be taking to Sutton’s High Street from 12-5pm to spread the good word about the benefits that apprenticeships can bring to the lives of 16-24 year olds. The team will be dressed in the signature bright pink, and will be engaging young people to discuss the power of starting an apprenticeship, over other further education or employment options.
Win £100 to spend
Starting today, 16-24 year olds will have a chance to engage in an Instagram competition and win £100 for them and a friend to spend on the High Street too. All they need to do is check our Instagram, make sure they are following us, and then like the #earnwhileyoulearn image and tag a friend.
Watch the Twitter handles #earnwhileyoulearn and #NAW2016 to keep an eye on all activity, and follow the Hub on social media to watch us on the High Street, if you can’t make it.
Terms & Conditions
