One key point I would like to share from our experience is not to underestimate what your apprentice will be able to do for you!
HR Dept. is a growing company and we recognise the importance of developing the team. We believed that employing an apprentice would give that person an opportunity to learn new skills from scratch and explore the world of work. In return we were hoping to gain a future employee who would initially help us out administratively but then develop a range of skills in marketing, IT and HR.
Since hiring, we have learnt how valuable a motivated apprentice can be to the organisation. Our apprentice, Amy, has a positive can do attitude. We also learnt not to assume that an apprentice can only operate at a basic level. Amy has embraced our CRM system, which is too complex for many, and has become our “Office 365” expert providing valuable support to the rest of the team.
What we have found with our apprentice is a great team player. Amy slotted in with the rest of the team right from the start, and we were able to confidently delegate tasks to her leaving the rest of us with more time to work on client issues. Amy also adds a gret seanse of fun to the office.
I truly believe that for the right person, an apprenticeship can be a fantastic alternative to university. If you are not academic or looking to follow a particular vocation – law – science etc that requires a degree, then an apprenticeship can give you a flying start in the world of work.
Amy is now a full-time employee here at The HR Dept and we are now working with her on the next stage of her development. It is clear that Amy’s confidence, knowledge and authority have all grown significantly as a result of this process, and we would not hesitate in taking on another apprentice.
To keep things real, this hub is run by a team of apprentices with the support of Sutton Council. If there’s information that you’re after that’s not here – just give us a call on 07761 841464, or drop us a question via text or WhatsApp. We’re also on email at email@example.com
